The Metamorphosis of Vinyl
Book Making, Print Design, Content Collection
For this project, I researched the past, present, and future of Vinyl. The book consists of four chapters: How Vinyl was Born, Format Development, Vinyl Today, and The Future of Vinyl. The design is heavy on texture to accentuate the tactical nature of the vinyl experience. I chose a high contrast and minimal color palette for this project to evoke a classic and nostalgic feel by using black and white images. I also used an electric red throughout the design to add contrast and energy to the design. The book is in a 6” x 6” format to mimic the 12” x 12” vinyl sleeve format. The cover texture was laser cut into a square piece of binder’s board and put together with book cloth and binder’s thread.
